The digital age has given Lian Dongya a free rein in the art field. His numerous skills honed over the years come to life in these new works. The trick of molding flour figures turns the fabricated scene commonplace, the photography makes the dough figurine gray, the computer reverses the colors, while the paints flame the gray. He performed gracefully in this progressive disfigurement and artificial replantation. It doesn't matter whether the work is photography, painting or digital photography. He sets up a scene of calm, sadness, stupidity, agitation and dark elegance just to seek for contingency, changeability and plasticity. The ripples of desire aroused by his colorful images will finally be calmed down in the complex and long process (such as painting, sculpture, setting, shooting, computer manipulation, printing and coloring). He soothes the undercurrent in his mind with seemingly mechanical manoeuvre, weaves dreams with hands, eyes, brush, paper and colors, dissolves the loneliness with layers upon layers of colors, and questions the authenticity of photography with random colors and anti-intelligence digital manipulation. There is no narrative, no metaphor, only the repeated strokes flaming up the whole scene.
